Here We Go Again

I got a very upsetting phone call Thursday mid-morning. Abby was refusing to eat or drink anything and had a fever of 101.4. Nate was concerned about the way she was behaving. We called the Dr. and they made us an appointment at 2:40 p.m. It's hard being an hour drive away for work sometimes....I wished I could've been there with my little Munchi! Thank goodness that Abby has an amazing daddy who takes such good care of her.

Another troubling phone call at 3:20 - Abby had to be re-admitted to the hospital. Nate said she was pretty brave during the first attempt at putting in an IV, but she got pretty upset when they had to make a second attempt. Maybe it was a good thing that I was stuck at work during that part! After a very LONG night, with not much sleep, Abby was finally released around 10:00 am the next morning. She had developed an infection, but she is doing much better now that they've given her some stronger antibiotics!

Tonsils...Tonsils...We don't need no stinkin' Tonsils!

I suppose it was inevitable that I would be creating a post about Abby having her tonsils removed .... when we saw the specialist, he said her tonsils were touching in the middle of her throat. I didn't expect to have them schedule her for surgery so quickly, but a short 5 days later, we were sitting in pre-op waiting for our Munchkin to undergo her second surgical procedure! She, of course, thought the whole thing was pretty exciting! She loved the pink elephant jammies they gave her to put on, the new soft, red teddy bear she got from the nurses, and getting to take a "ride" on the moving bed!




Daddy rode with her, because she'd been given some medication that they said would make her "loopy." Nobody wanted her to fall off as we headed down the hall to surgery! About the time they wheeled us into the "holding" area, the medicine kicked in. She got the funniest blank expression on her face, and it was like she was drunk! Weird and funny at the same time to see your toddler acting that way!

We gave her big hugs and kisses as they quickly wheeled her away to the operating room. 30 minutes later, Dr. Pinky (more commonly known as Dr. Hinckley) came to the waiting room to give us a report. Abby only lost about a teaspoon of blood and did really well! Dr. H. mentioned he wasn't sure how the poor kid could even breathe because her tonsils were literally overlapping in her throat! Thankfully, once she has recuperated, things should be much easier for her. A few minutes later, we received word that she was awake and doing well, but that we needed to come to her room as soon as possible. As soon as she saw us, she burst into tears, and insisted that I lay down on the bed next to her. It took a few minutes for her to calm down, but the Dr.'s and nurses had warned us that most kids are pretty agitated and almost violent when they come out of anesthesia. Luckily, Abby didn't get violent, but at one point, she did get really angry and screamed quite a bit! I was glad it was short lived, and soon we had our good-natured, happy baby back.



We were so proud of Abby when all the nurses kept saying they wished all their patients were as good as her! She started drinking juices and eating popcicles right away, and didn't have any problems using the potty, etc. She even wanted to get up and go for a little walk right away!

It was a really LONG day of watching cartoons, reading books, and basically, trying to explain to a two year old why she couldn't go home, yet! We did survive, though, and Abby was discharged about 5:30 pm.




She was so excited to go home, that she didn't even care when we told her she couldn't take the cool kid-sized wheelchair with her!

So far, she is doing great and we are hopeful of a quick recovery! What a trooper our little Munchkin is!

Happy Easter ~ 2009

Hope you enjoy some of our Easter fun in 2009. One of the best/funniest things that Abby said this year, was to her Aunt Kami. She had got to spend the day with her cousins, Aunt Kami, and Grandma Gail. They made cupcakes and other various crafts. At the end of the day, as they were leaving, Abby turned to Aunt Kami and said, "Thanks for letting me come play! And thanks for EGGING me!" We had Easter dinner at our house this year with about 20 guests (including our own family). We had fried turkey, ham, scalloped potatoes, etc. It was a lot of fun and yummy food. Oddly, I didn't take one single picture of the actual Easter Day activities! I will have to recreate the day, just so I can get a picture of Abby in her cute Easter dress!! At any rate, we had lots of fun and still managed to remember the real reason we celebrate. We are so thankful for the Savior and His sacrifice and resurrection. We hope to keep Him in remembrance all year long, but are glad to have this special day to celebrate His life!

I LOVE TO SEE THE TEMPLE

One of Abby's favorite Primary songs is "I Love to See the Temple," and imagine my joy, when she recently had taken to saying (pretty frequently) that she wanted to go see the temple. She's a great example to her Daddy and I, so for a Family Home Evening night a couple of weeks ago, we took her to see the temple.




It was a little cloudy and chilly that evening, but we quickly felt warmth in our hearts as we looked at all the neat displays in the Visitors' Center (including a smaller version of the Christus that they even let the children touch), checked out some of the (barely) blooming flowers on the grounds, and let Abby touch the wall of the temple.


She didn't quite understand why she couldn't go in, but now she says all the time, "Mommy, I need to eat all my food, so I can get bigger and go to the temple!" I pray that she will always have such a strong desire.



We are so blessed to have a temple so near to us, and hope we will be able to continue to cultivate a love and respect for the temple in ourselves and our little Munchkin!!

And what Family Home Evening would be complete without treats!?
